Johnson – Title – Class 2 – Podcast – Module 1

I am actually super excited to start this project because I listen to podcasts all the time! I usually listen to them on my drive from school back to Long Island and from home back up to school; especially when I’m driving long distances. They help to keep me awake for some reason. My friends don’t understand how they don’t put me to sleep, but when I listen to a podcast it’s something new and interesting- I’m not just listening to the same songs I’ve already heard a million times. My favorite podcasts to listen to are Reply All by Gimlet Media and Up and Vanished by TenderfootTV.

For this project I listened to the “I Should Start A Podcast” by Anchor. I liked this podcast and I thought it was a good introduction into the world of podcast making. It made me think of things I would not have otherwise given a second look to like picking background music and building an audience. I listened to the “Your Podcasting Questions, Answered” and I liked listening to all the questions that these people had and hearing the advise the host was giving. The host suggested having a segment where listeners would call in with questions or comments and that engagement could cause more people to listen to your podcast. I am also a fan of segments in podcasts, It breaks up whatever the hosts are talking about and it’s a great way to incorporate your audience into the show. In one of my favorite podcasts the audience or one of the hosts finds a niche viral tweet and they ask each other what it is about. This segment is called “yes, yes, no” and 9 out of 10 times at least one person can decode and explain the tweet to the other hosts. My favorite irrelevant piece of knowledge that I’ve gained from this segment is that the word “Buffalo” 8 times in a row is a grammatically correct sentence. Go figure.

The podcasts that I listen to all have a “DJ” whose job it is to create beats and overlay them to the audio of the podcast. These podcasts are all semi-educational, whether it be hearing about a true story, investigating a problem a viewer sent in, or decoding a niche viral tweet I think these podcasts are all unique in what they offer.
